Existence by Abbi Glines

3 Stars
(Existence book 1)

What happens when you're stalked by Death? You fall in love with him, of course.
Pagan Moore doesn't cheat Death, but instead, falls in love with him.
Seventeen year old Pagan Moore has seen souls her entire life. Once she realized the strangers she often saw walking through walls were not visible to anyone else, she started ignoring them. If she didn't let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he's dead.
Not only does he not go away when she ignores him, but he does something none of the others have ever done. He speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn't realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all.

He is Death and he's about to break all the rules.

My thoughts before reading;  OK it is pretty obvious what drew me to this book. I mean come on LOOK at the cover.......right?? But I do have to point out that the similarities between this cover and the cover of Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout are crazy. And for argument sake I am adding the cover for it so you can see for yourself....

I swear it is even the same guy!!! Anyway, I am a little nervous because it has some mixed reviews so I have decided to see for myself.......

My after thoughts;  Ummmmm...... I am not really sure what to say. When I started reading I was loving it, the first several chapters had me wanting more. I even developed a few butterflies went Dank was around. But now I am torn between whether I liked this book or if I should have just stopped at the halfway point.

While reading I felt as though I read it before. Then it suddenly hit me that no I had not read this before, it was just A LOT like something else I had read. There was a little Twilight, a little of the Immortal series by Alyson Noel, a little bit of Girl, Interrupted (I have not read this but I did see the movie), there was even a point when I was thinking, "Ok, this is so Harry Potter." And then at the very end there was even a line that made me think of the movie Casper. So now, the WTF?? feeling I had when I saw the cover kinda seems apropos.

Now being the complete sucker that I am I will probably read the next book in the series. You get a little bit of a cliffhanger and had the book been what I was expecting while reading the first several chapters it would be drooling over the next book. However, since it did not live up to that thought I will be saving the next one for a rainy day.

Happy Reading!! :-)
