One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

4 Stars

(Night Huntress #2)
You can run from the grave, but you can't hide . . .

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She's still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she'll find that desire lasts forever . . . and that Bones won't let her get away again.

Amazon.com description

My thoughts; I was very upset with Cat at the end of Halfway to the Grave. I kept asking myself how she could leave Bones behind, was she insane? Then I really thought about it and, given the choices she had, she made the decision that she felt was best. While I still don't agree, I can't fault her for it. I was pleasantly surprised by the relationship that Cat forged with the soliders she was basically forced to train. She bonded with them on a deep level and now stays because she chooses too. Bones, true to his "you can run but you can't hide" vow, comes back into the picture in full force. Which lets face it, is the only way he does things. He is one vamp that is definitely THUD-worthy!! There are plenty of sexy times and one chapter in particular will have you running to the nearest cold shower. *blush* I am looking forward to seeing how this series plays out.

Happy Reading!! :-)

My Thoughts; I am once again awe struck! I have fallen head over heels with this series and this is only book 2. This book is centered around Rhage who is just about the yummiest thing since Reese's Pieces. As well as the little teasers we get of the rest of the Brotherhood. There is also someone new who comes into the picture and I have a feeling he will be a very important character later on. (Not a Spoiler I promise) I only gave this one a 4.5 because, even though I am in love, I just felt like there was something missing. So now I am on to the next :)

Happy Reading!! :-)

My Thoughts: Ok just a little 411 about me..... I am a sucker for Vampires!
I decided to take a break from YA and check out a very highly recommended series by JR Ward. I am not familiar with this author at all, but, I was cruising Facebook one day and I happened across a page simply called, "I love Vampire Novels". I was all, "Really?? Me Too!!" so I hit the good old like button and I was bombarded by posts of people saying this was their favorite series. Well being the bandwagon jumper that I am, I found myself hunting Book 1 on iBooks. I have to stop for one second to inhale/exhale before I continue....Okay....This book was first and foremost NOT for a younger audience and second, worth every-single-juicy-word. It was funny when it needed to be funny, totally kickazz when it needed to be kickazz, romantic to the 'enth degree and sexy as hell. You will fall in love with the entire Brotherhood. I am still in "swoon" mood. If vampires are your cup o' tea, er blood, then this one is a must read.

Lover Reborn Teaser Week 6

LASSITER!!! *sigh*

As he smiled at her, his expression was that of a holy man. “My name’s Lassiter, and I’ll tell you all you need to know about me. I’m an angel first and a sinner second, and I’m not here for long. I’ll never hurt you, but I’m prepared to make you pretty goddamn uncomfortable if I have to, to get my job done. I like sunsets and long walks on the beach, but my perfect female no longer exists. Oh, and my favorite hobby is annoying the sh*t out of people. Guess I’m just bred to want to get a rise out of folks—probably the whole resurrection thing.” -Lover Reborn

4 Stars

(Night Huntress Series #1)
Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Description from Amazon.com

My thoughts; This book/series came highly reccommended by a group of very wonderful women who I have met on Facebook. First I would like to say they are absolutely the peanut butter to my jelly. I have never met another group of strangers that I have so much in common with and I am so proud that my love of books brought them all into my life.

Now on to the reason we are all here....Cat and Bones!! It is no wonder this series was recommended to me. This book was delicious. Bones could not be anymore sinful if he was dipped in chocolate. Cat is a total bad arse, she has a  tendancy to think she knows best and is hard headed like a brick wall but I love her. Not very happy with her since the end of the book but she has time to vindicate herself, being that this was just the first book. So next up Night Huntress book 2!!!

Happy Reading!! :-)

Anything.

My thoughts; I would like to take a moment of silence while I mourn the fact that I have finished all the books in this series, until June........................

OK, respect has been paid so now... OH EM GEEEEE!!!!! I take back what I said after reading My Soul to Steal. This book was hands down my favorite to date. Ya know, you start out reading a series and you just know how it will go, girl meets most popular boy in school, girl finds out she is a Bean Sidhe, girl falls in love with said boy and everyone lives happily ever after. Well except for all the near death experiences and junk along the way. Then one day her boyfriend's brother, who just happens to be a Grim Reaper shows up and tells her she has a week to live. Needless to say nothing is the same after that. I was so emotionally involved in this book that I literally could not sleep because I couldn't wait to find out how it would end. No's were spoken out loud. Gasp's were running rampant. Tears were shed by the bucketful. I had moments where I would stop mid-sentence because I knew how the sentence would end, and if I didn't read it, it wouldn't happen. I know my logic is flawed but, whatever, it works for a second or two. (don't judge me lol) Just for the record, if anyone is saying, "OK, wait, I thought you had a no-spoilage policy!" I have given away ab-so-lu-te-ly NADA!! If you have not read this series and you should get it IMMEDIATELY!!

Happy Reading!! :-)

Lover Reborn Teaser Week 5

John and Qhuinn pulled up on either side of him, and the latter glanced over. “Tell me that isn’t our new neighbor.” “Xcor.” “Was he born with that puss or did someone make it for him?” “Who knows.” “Well, if that was supposed to be a nose job, he needs a new plastic surgeon.” -Lover Reborn

*swooning* LOVE John Matthew and Qhuinn isn't so bad himself!! Also, I am very interested to see what happens with Xcor.

My Soul to Steal by Rachel Vincent

 5 Stars
(Soul Screamers #4)

Trying to work things out with Nash—her maybe boyfriend—is hard enough for Kaylee Cavanaugh. She can't just pretend nothing happened. But "complicated" doesn't even begin to describe their relationship when his ex-girlfriend transfers to their school, determined to take Nash back.
See, Sabine isn't just an ordinary girl. She's a mara, the living personification of a nightmare. She can read people's fears—and craft them into nightmares while her victims sleep. Feeding from human fear is how she survives.
And Sabine isn't above scaring Kaylee and the entire school to death to get whatever—and whoever—she wants.

Description for Amazon.com

My Thoughts; I have to say I think this has been my favorite of the series so far. I have commended Kayle for her maturity in handling certain situations, and although she does have those thoughts pop in her head that makes you think she will handle it all wrong, she has never disappointed me. BUT, nothing brings out a catty teenage girl like an ex-girlfriend who still has eyes for the boyfriend. And then you take into account that everyone, well most everyone, are more than human and you have got yourself some series high school drama. This book was great! You name it, you got it. Cat fights -check! Rampant jealousy-check! Unrequited love-double check!! I have a feeling that a certain someone (who shall remain nameless) is starting to have eyes for another someone (who will also remain nameless). But this had definite potential for a awesome storyline. I am on to read If I Die, which is the next book in the series. And will be the ending of my Soul Screamers marathon......until June that is!! I cant wait for the next book and I have even officially finished the ones I have. Eeep!!

Happy Reading!! :-)

Remembering Whitney Houston

I wanted to take this time to remember Whitney Houston. Not for the awful turn her life took but for her awesome talent and one of a kind voice. I grew up listening to her and my heart is just broken. She was a legend and she will continue to touch people with the legacy of music that she leaves behind. Rest in Peace Whitney. We will always love you!

My Soul to Keep by Rachel Vincent

4.5 Stars

(Soul Screamers #3)

Kaylee has one addiction: her very hot, very popular boyfriend, Nash. A banshee like Kaylee, Nash understands her like no one else. Nothing can come between them.
Until something does.
Demon breath. No, not the toothpaste-challenged kind. The Netherworld kind. The kind that really can kill you. Somehow the super-addictive substance has made its way to the human world. But how? Kaylee and Nash have to cut off the source and protect their friends—one of whom is already hooked.
And so is someone else…

Description from Amazon.com

My thoughts; Every so often you find a book or series of books that from the moment you pick it up you know you are done for. You fall so deeply in love with the characters that you actually feel how they feel. I have also found that, for me, when I come across a series after several if not all of the books have been published this holds especially true. When I find myself able to read several books in a series back to back, I lose myself in them. I completely give myself over to the experience of being trapped in their world. Which feeds my desire and love for paranormal fiction.

My heart is shattered after reading this book. Teenage angst once again setting up shop deep in the pit of my stomach. It makes me both long for that feeling of innocence that comes with being a teenager in love for the first time, as well as thankful that I am long past that stage in my life. That being said I am so proud of Kaylee. She really is a rock. Even when her world is crashing down around he she doesn't wallow in the "poor pitiful me" that she so rightly deserves. She handles herself with the maturity of someone twice her age. Bravo! We get to know Emma a little better in this story and I was glad to see more of the relationship her and Kaylee have. Sophie, what can I say, she is a spoiled brat and is completely clueless about the world that surrounds her. Tod is the reluctant knight in shining armor, well maybe dull armor but armor just the same. You always think he will let you down but then, there he is, right when you need him. And Nash.....sigh. Yep just sigh. I am highly recommending this series to anyone. And as for me...I am on to the next!!

Lover Reborn Teaser Week 4...

As cathedrale bells rang in his head and he spat out blood, Vishous muttered grimly, "That was for looking at her like you were f**king her in your head."
Over across the room, Phury had likewise curled up a fist and was smacking it into the open palm of his free hand. As the Brother (sic) approached, he said in a nasty tone, "And this is going to be to make sure you don't follow up on the bright idea."

Throe smiled at them even though his lower lip felt like it was the size of his head. The more they beat him, the more he was going to have to feed.... (sic) And that would be "making love" not "f**king."

I can't wait to get to know Throe better!!

My Soul to Save by Rachel Vincent

4 Stars

(Soul Screamers #2)
When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.
So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn't wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can't cry for someone who has no soul.
The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad's ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend's loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can't possibly understand.
Kaylee can't let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk….

Description for Amazon.com

My thoughts; I was just as pleased with this book as the last. I feel we learn a little more about Kaylee's world and the Netherworld as well. Kaylee has started bean sidhe lessons and she doesn't feel quite as "lost" as she did in book one. I love that her Dad is with her now but I also have the same "ok and where were you when..." moments that Kaylee has. We are introduced to a media conglomerate in this book that sounds suspiciously like Disney. I think maybe the author has a little problem with all the child exploitation that is today's idea of entertainment. (What the..? Where did that soapbox come from? Ahem, let me just put that away. Any-who, moving on...)

There were a few steamy times between Kaylee and Nash and I had to remind myself that this it YA. They were skating the too juicy line, but then in pops Tod and the moment is averted (gawh). I said after reading the last book that I loved the characters and that has not changed. Kaylee's overwhelming need to do what she thinks is right is remarkable and can sometimes border on insane. I can't say it is a bad thing at all. I love that she is a strong female and she doesn't back down, no matter the consequences to herself. I am very happily moving on to the next in the series.....

JR Ward, superbowl wager......

OK here is the deal. JR Ward wagered a Cellie that if the Pats lost the Superbowl she would give us two quotes from Lover Reborn (available 3/27/12) so here they are.... (the cellie name has been removed by me but is available on JR's facebook page, click on the link and it will take you there)

Quote number 1

"I know why you're here, Xcor."
"Do you. Mind reader?"
"You're going to get yourself killed."
"Indeed. Or mayhap it shall be the other way around."
Tohrment shook his head slowly. "Consider this a friendly warning. Go back where you came from before what you set in motion rolls you right into an early grave."
... "I like where I am. The air is bracing on this side of the ocean. How's your shellan, by the way."
-Lover Reborn, pg. 23
(Cellie's chosen Xcor as one of the Superbowl quotes- you can IMAGINE how well this went over, by the way.......... #badf**ckingidea)

Quote number 2

"So you've taken out your piercings," Blay said.
"Not all of them."
"Why? I mean... they were always, like, you, you know?"
"Guess I don't want to be defined that way anymore."
As Blay's brows popped, Qhuinn's kind of wanted to do the same. He'd expected something else to come out of his piehole. Something like, "Meh." Or, "Whatever." Or, "I still got 'em where it counts, don't you worry."
After which he could honk his package, and snort like he had balls the size of his head.
No wonder Saxton seemed attractive.
-Lover Reborn, pg. 140-141 (This is number two for the Super Bowl quotes, thanks to Cellie!)

My Soul To Take by Rachel Vincent (Soul Screamers Series, book 1)

4 Stars

She doesn't see dead people, but…
She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.
Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about her need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next…

Description from Amazon.com

My Thoughts; I have wanted to read this series for about a year or so, but no mater how hard I tried I could not find the first few books, I was out of things to read and had started thinking about this series again. I had decided to look on line but just hadn't done it (procrastinator alert). Well I was in the local bookstore (I say local but it is like a 30 min drive to the nearest one here, this makes me very sad) and I saw the 3rd book, My Soul to Keep, and thought "What the hey! I will give it one more try" and they had every one! I was so excited I bought all 4, brought them home and proceeded to sit them on my shelf, where the stayed for another 6 months (again procrastinate much?) due to the fact that another series had caught my attention. And for those who check regularly you know which series that was, but, I'm off the point.

I started reading this book mid week last week and I was instantly hooked. I would have sailed through it but life tends to seriously cut into my reading time. Anyway, I had read the back of the first book....(pausing to explain, I NEVER read the back of any of the other books in a series because I feel they may give something away)... and I knew there was going to be questions, "What is Kaylee?" being number one. And in the interest of my non-spoilage rule I will not say. Although, if I write a review for the next book I will probably mention it.

Ok, rundown...go...I love Kaylee, great personality, not a whiny kid type although she does have a few "typical teenager moments". Nash is just yummy, he seems much older than he is but for understandable reason and I just know there is more to come with his story. Emma (the obligatory bestie) is great, we don't get to know her fully in this book because she is grounded for a while, due to something that happens early on, but, what you do get to know of her you love. Sophie (the I'm to popular to care, cousin) well my description kinda sums it up. And then there is Tod (won't say what he is either) but I think he has potential to be a heart breaker. And then the adults, who always seem to be way more dysfunctional than all the teens combined. Go figure. All in all a great book and as soon as I hit publish I will be off to start on the next.

Happy Reading!! :-)

Lover Reborn Teaser Week 3

She approached him slowly and unevenly and sat at the desk beside him. “I am so sorry.” When he seemed a bit surprised, she shrugged once again. “How can I not offer condolences in the face of your loss? In truth, after seeing you both together, I don’t think I shall ever forget how much you loved her.” After a moment, he murmured hoarsely, “That makes two of us.” -Lover Reborn

Don't forget release date is March 27, 2012!!!
